Problem:

Quantos pares de inteiros positivos (x,y)(x, y) são soluções da equação 3x+5y=5013x + 5y = 501?

Solution:

A equação dada é equivalente a y=3(167x)5y = \frac{3(167 - x)}{5}. Como yy é um inteiro positivo, 167x167 - x deve ser um múltiplo positivo de 55, ou seja:
167x=5kx=1675k 167 - x = 5k \quad \Rightarrow \quad x = 167 - 5k

x=5×33+25kx=5(33k)+2 x = 5 \times 33 + 2 - 5k \quad \Rightarrow \quad x = 5(33 - k) + 2

onde kk é um inteiro positivo. Como xx é positivo, devemos ter k33k \leq 33. Consequentemente, k=1,2,,33k = 1, 2, \ldots, 33, o que nos garante 3333 soluções para o problema proposto.
