Problem:

Inteiros de 4 algarismos - Sabendo que aa é um número natural, e que 4a24 a^{2} e 43×a3\frac{4}{3} \times a^{3} são números naturais de 4 algarismos, determine aa.

Solution:

Temos que 10004a2<100001000 \leq 4 a^{2} < 10000 e também 100043×a3<100001000 \leq \frac{4}{3} \times a^{3} < 10000.

De 10004a2<100001000 \leq 4 a^{2} < 10000 segue que 250a2<2500250 \leq a^{2} < 2500. Sendo aa um número inteiro e 152=22515^{2} = 225, 162=25616^{2} = 256 e 502=250050^{2} = 2500, temos que 15<a<5015 < a < 50.

De 100043a3<100001000 \leq \frac{4}{3} a^{3} < 10000 temos 750a3<7500750 \leq a^{3} < 7500. Mas, 103=100010^{3} = 1000, 93=7299^{3} = 729, 203=800020^{3} = 8000 e 193=685919^{3} = 6859. Assim, 9<a<209 < a < 20.

Portanto, temos a=16,17,18a = 16, 17, 18 ou 1919.

Por outro lado, como 43×a3\frac{4}{3} \times a^{3} é um número inteiro, concluímos que a3a^{3} é múltiplo de 33 e consequentemente, aa é múltiplo de 33. Logo, a=18a = 18.
