Algebra Difficulty 2.0 Junior Prove it Canada

To begin, tokens are distributed unequally between two
people. Every minute following this, each person receives 22 more tokens.Figure 0 Tokens are distributed between Abi and Brody with Abi receiving 3030 tokens and Brody receiving 1010 tokens. How many tokens does Abi have in total after 77 minutes?Figure 1 A total of 8080 tokens are distributed between Carl and Desiree. After 1212 minutes, Desiree has 3737 tokens. How many tokens did Carl start with?Figure 2 A total of 100100 tokens are distributed between Essi and Francis, with Essi receiving 1212 tokens. After tt minutes, Francis has 33 times as many tokens as Essi. Determine the value of tt.

Solution

After 77 minutes, Abi has a total of 30+(7×2)=30+14=4430+(7\times2)=30+14=44 tokens. After 1212 minutes, Desiree had received 12×2=2412\times2=24 additional tokens. After 1212 minutes, she had 3737 tokens in total, and so Desiree started with 3724=1337-24=13 tokens. A total of 8080 tokens were initially distributed, and so Carl started with 8013=6780-13=67 tokens. At the start, Essi received 1212 tokens and Francis received 10012=88100-12=88 tokens. After tt minutes, Essi has 12+2t12+2t tokens and Francis has 88+2t88+2t tokens. After tt minutes, Francis has 33 times as many tokens as Essi, and so 88+2t=3(12+2t)88+2t=3(12+2t). Solving for tt, we get 88+2t=36+6t88+2t=36+6t or 52=4t52=4t, and so t=524=13t=\dfrac{52}{4}=13.
