If $x=3$ , what is the perimeter of the figure shown?

A number or a short expression. Fractions can be typed as 3/2, and spacing doesn't matter.

Solution

Since $x=3$ , the side lengths of the figure are 4, 3, 6, and 10. Thus, the perimeter of the figure is $4+3+6+10=23$ . (Alternatively, the perimeter is $x+6+10+(x+1)=2x+17$ . When $x=3$ , this equals $2(3)+17$ or $23$ .)
