What is the average (mean) of pp, qq, rr, ss, and tt?

Solution

Since WXYWXY is a straight angle, then p+q+r+s+t=180p^\circ + q^\circ + r^\circ + s^\circ + t^\circ = 180^\circ and so p+q+r+s+t=180p+q+r+s+t = 180.
To calculate the average of pp, qq, rr, ss, and tt, we add the five numbers and divide by 5.
Therefore, the average of pp, qq, rr, ss, and tt is p+q+r+s+t5=1805=36\dfrac{p+q+r+s+t}{5} = \dfrac{180}{5} = 36.
