Let f(x)=x22f(x)=x^2-2. Let f(n)(x)f^{(n)}(x) denote the nthn^{\text{th}} iterate of ff (i.e. f(1)(x)=f(x)f^{(1)}(x)=f(x) and f(k+1)(x)=f(f(k)(x))f^{(k+1)}(x)=f\big(f^{(k)}(x)\big)).
