Algebra Difficulty 4.3 AIME Find the answer United States

Problem:

Is the number 2300032006\left|2^{3000}-3^{2006}\right| bigger or smaller than 12\frac{1}{2}?

A number or a short expression. Fractions can be typed as 3/2, and spacing doesn't matter.

Solution

Solution:

Notice that 2300032006\left|2^{3000}-3^{2006}\right| is a non-negative integer, so it is either 00 or bigger than 1/21/2. However, this number is not 00 since 23000320062^{3000} \neq 3^{2006}, hence 2300032006>12\left|2^{3000}-3^{2006}\right| > \frac{1}{2}.
