Is it possible to arrange the first 49 positive integers in a 7×77 \times 7 array, so that each cell contains exactly one number and no two primes are neighbours?

Two neighbours are numbers from cells with a common side or a common vertex.

Solution

It is possible. The positive primes less than 4949 are 22, 33, 55, 77, 1111, 1313, 1717, 1919, 2323, 2929, 3131, 3737, 4141, 4343, 4747, that is 1515 numbers.

Number the lines and the columns from 11 to 77, set the primes in 1515 of the 1616 squares with both odd indexes and the other 3434 numbers in the remaining cells.
