For the integers aa, bb, cc, and dd the difference between aa and bb equals 22, the difference between bb and cc equals 33, and the difference between cc and dd equals 44. Which of the following values cannot be the difference between aa and dd?

A) 11 B) 33 C) 55 D) 77 E) 99

This was a multiple-choice question, but the options didn't survive into the source we have. The answer given is D, and the solution below works it through.
