Problem:

The figure shows a semicircle, where BB is a point on its diameter ACAC so that AB=6AB = 6 and BC=12BC = 12. The line perpendicular to this diameter meets the semicircle at DD. The semicircles with diameters ABAB and BCBC, drawn as shown, meet ADAD and CDCD at EE and FF, respectively. Find the distance between EE and FF.

Observe that DEFBDEFB is a rectangle so EF=DBEF = DB. However, DB2=AB×BC=72DB^2 = AB \times BC = 72. Thus, EF=62EF = 6\sqrt{2}.
