Geometry Difficulty 4.8 AIME Prove it Brazil

Let ABCDEABCDE be a regular pentagon such that the star ACEBDACEBD has area 11. Let PP be the point of intersection of ACAC and BEBE and QQ be the point of intersection of BDBD and CECE. Find the area of APQDAPQD.

Solution

Let ADAD meet ECEC and EBEB at RR and SS respectively. PQDRPQDR is a parallelogram, so the area of PQDPQD equals the area of RQDRQD, which by its turn equals the area of ERSERS. Therefore the area of APQDAPQD equals the area of APDRESAPDRES, which is half of the area of the whole star.
