Algebra Difficulty 3.8 AMC 10/12 Find the answer United States

A data set containing 20 numbers, some of which are 66, has mean 4545. When all the 66s are removed, the data set has mean 6666. How many 66s were in the original data set?

Let the number of 66s in the original data set be kk. Numbers in the original data set have sum 2045=90020 \cdot 45 = 900, and the data set with the 66s removed has sum 9006k900 - 6k. Thus
9006k20k=66. \frac{900 - 6k}{20 - k} = 66.
Solving this equation for kk yields k=7k = 7. For example, the data set could consist of 77 copies of 66 and 1313 copies of 6666.
