A broken calculator has the ++ and ×\times keys switched. For how many ordered pairs (a,b)(a, b) of integers will it correctly calculate a+ba+b using the labelled ++ key?

Solution:
We need a+b=aba + b = a b, or a=bb1=11b1a = \frac{b}{b-1} = 1 - \frac{1}{b-1}, so 1/(b1)1/(b-1) is an integer. Thus bb must be 00 or 22, and aa is 00 or 22, respectively. So there are 22.
