Geometry Difficulty 4.7 AIME Prove it Brazil

ABCABC is a triangle with A=90\angle A = 90^\circ. For a point DD on the side BCBC, the feet of the perpendiculars to ABAB and ACAC are EE and FF. For which point DD is EFEF a minimum?

Solution

The foot of the perpendicular from AA. AEDFAEDF is a rectangle, so EF=ADEF = AD. ADAD is obviously a minimum for the altitude.
