Number theory Difficulty 5.3 AIME, harder Prove it Philippines

Problem:

Let AA, BB, CC be positive integers such that the number 1212017ABC1212017ABC is divisible by 4545. Find the difference between the largest and the smallest possible values of the two-digit number ABAB.

Solution

Solution:

Since the number is divisible by 4545, it must be divisible by both 99 and 55.

If CC is 00, then AA and BB must have a sum of either 44 or 1313.

If CC is 55, then AA and BB can either have a sum of 88 or 1717.

Based from these, the largest and smallest values of ABAB are 9898 and 1313, respectively, which have a difference of 8585.
