Combinatorics Difficulty 2.2 Junior Find the answer

Joey and his five brothers are ages 33, 55, 77, 99, 1111, and 1313. One afternoon two of his brothers whose ages sum to 1616 went to the movies, two brothers younger than 1010 went to play baseball, and Joey and the 55-year-old stayed home. How old is Joey?

Pick one

Solution

Because the 55-year-old stayed home, we know that the 1111-year-old did not go to the movies, as the 55-year-old did not and 11+5=1611+5=16. Also, the 1111-year-old could not have gone to play baseball, as he is older than 1010. Thus, the 1111-year-old must have stayed home, so Joey is (D) 11\boxed{\textbf{(D) }11}
