Algebra Difficulty 1.9 Junior Find the answer

If 82x=5y+88\cdot2^x = 5^{y + 8}, then when y=8,x=y = - 8,x =

Pick one

Solution

Simple substitution yields
82x=508 \cdot 2^{x} = 5^{0}
Reducing the equation gives
82x=18 \cdot 2^{x} = 1
Dividing by 8 gives
2x=182^{x}=\frac{1}{8}
This simply gives that x=3x=-3.
Therefore, the answer is (B) -3\fbox{(B) -3}.
