Number theory Difficulty 5.2 AIME, harder Find the answer

2. Find all the solutions of each of the following diophantine equations
a) x2y2=8x^{2}-y^{2}=8
b) x24y2=40x^{2}-4 y^{2}=40
c) 4x29y2=1004 x^{2}-9 y^{2}=100.

A number or a short expression. Fractions can be typed as 3/2, and spacing doesn't matter.

Solution

2. a) x=±3,y=±1x= \pm 3, y= \pm 1
b) no solution
c) x=±5,y=0;x=±13,y=±8x= \pm 5, y=0 ; x= \pm 13, y= \pm 8
