Algebra Difficulty 2.5 Junior Find the answer

Handy Aaron helped a neighbor 1141 \frac14 hours on Monday, 5050 minutes on Tuesday, from 8:20 to 10:45 on Wednesday morning, and a half-hour on Friday. He is paid 3\text{3} per hour. How much did he earn for the week?

Pick one

Solution

Let's convert everything to minutes and add them together. On Monday he worked for 5460=75\frac54 \cdot 60 = 75 minutes. On Tuesday he worked 5050 minutes. On Wednesday he worked for 22 hours 2525 minutes, or 2(60)+25=1452(60)+25=145 minutes. On Friday he worked 602=30\frac{60}{2}=30 minutes. This adds up to 75+50+145+30=30075+50+145+30=300 minutes, or 300/60=5300/60=5 hours and 5 3 = (E) 15\text{5 3 = (E) 15}.
