Algebra Difficulty 2.2 Junior Find the answer

If 2x2=9x42 x^{2}=9 x-4 and $x
eq 4,whatisthevalueof, what is the value of 2 x$?

A number or a short expression. Spacing and $ signs are ignored.

Solution

Since 2x2=9x42 x^{2}=9 x-4, then 2x29x+4=02 x^{2}-9 x+4=0. Factoring, we obtain (2x1)(x4)=0(2 x-1)(x-4)=0. Thus, 2x=12 x=1 or x=4x=4. Since $x
eq 4,then, then 2 x=1$.
