Geometry Difficulty 4.6 AIME Find the answer

Isosceles trapezoid ABCDABCD with bases ABAB and CDCD has a point PP on ABAB with AP=11,BP=27AP=11, BP=27, CD=34CD=34, and CPD=90\angle CPD=90^{\circ}. Compute the height of isosceles trapezoid ABCDABCD.

Solution

Drop projections of A,P,BA, P, B onto CDCD to get A,P,BA', P', B'. Since AB=38A'B'=38 and CD=34CD=34, we get that DA=CB=2DA'=CB'=2. Thus, PD=9P'D=9 and PC=25P'C=25. Hence, the answer is PP=PDPC=15PP'=\sqrt{P'D \cdot P'C}=15.
