Algebra Difficulty 1.5 Junior Find the answer

If m+1=n23m+1=\frac{n-2}{3}, what is the value of 3mn3 m-n?

A number or a short expression. Fractions can be typed as 3/2, and spacing doesn't matter.

Solution

Since m+1=n23m+1=\frac{n-2}{3}, then 3(m+1)=n23(m+1)=n-2. This means that 3m+3=n23 m+3=n-2 and so 3mn=23=53 m-n=-2-3=-5.
