Algebra Difficulty 4.9 AIME Find the answer

Let A=H1,B=H6+1A=H_{1}, B=H_{6}+1. A real number xx is chosen randomly and uniformly in the interval [A,B][A, B]. Find the probability that x2>x3>xx^{2}>x^{3}>x.

A number or a short expression. Spacing and $ signs are ignored.

Solution

A=1,B=3A=-1, B=3. For x3>xx^{3}>x, either x>1x>1 or 1<x<0-1<x<0. However, for x>1,x2<x3x>1, x^{2}<x^{3}, so there are no solutions. 1<x<0-1<x<0 also satisfies x2>x3x^{2}>x^{3}, so our answer is 1/41 / 4.
