Algebra Difficulty 1.6 Junior Find the answer

If 2x+6=162x + 6 = 16, what is the value of x+4x + 4?

Solution

Solution 1: Since 2x+6=162x + 6 = 16, then 2x+62=162\frac{2x + 6}{2} = \frac{16}{2} and so x+3=8x + 3 = 8. Since x+3=8x + 3 = 8, then x+4=(x+3)+1=8+1=9x + 4 = (x + 3) + 1 = 8 + 1 = 9. Solution 2: Since 2x+6=162x + 6 = 16, then 2x=166=102x = 16 - 6 = 10. Since 2x=102x = 10, then 2x2=102\frac{2x}{2} = \frac{10}{2} and so x=5x = 5. Since x=5x = 5, then x+4=5+4=9x + 4 = 5 + 4 = 9.
