Algebra Difficulty 1.9 Junior Find the answer

For every real number xx, what is the value of the expression (x+1)2x2(x+1)^{2} - x^{2}?

A number or a short expression. Spacing and $ signs are ignored.

Solution

Expanding and simplifying, (x+1)2x2=(x2+2x+1)x2=2x+1(x+1)^{2} - x^{2} = (x^{2} + 2x + 1) - x^{2} = 2x + 1.
