Algebra Difficulty 2.2 Junior Find the answer

If 32x=643^{2x}=64, what is the value of 3x3^{-x}?

A number or a short expression. Spacing and $ signs are ignored.

Solution

Since 32x=643^{2x}=64 and 32x=(3x)23^{2x}=(3^x)^2, then (3x)2=64(3^x)^2=64 and so 3x=±83^x=\pm 8. Since 3x>03^x>0, then 3x=83^x=8. Thus, 3x=13x=183^{-x}=\frac{1}{3^x}=\frac{1}{8}.
