Algebra Difficulty 1.0 Junior Prove it United Kingdom

The navigation app on my smartphone gives distances in both miles and kilometres. When planning a journey, I notice the distance in miles, mm, and the distance in kilometres, kk, are such that m=k438m = k - 438. How long does my planned journey in miles work out to be if you use the approximation 1 mile = 1.6 kilometres?

Want a route through all this instead of an archive? The track puts 2,604 problems in a working order, from Junior Challenge level to the IMO shortlist.
