Official solution

The width of rectangle PQRSPQRS is the horizontal distance between points PP and QQ (or points SS and RR), since these points have equal yy-coordinates.

This distance is equal to the difference between their xx-coordinates or 4(4)=84-(-4)=8.

Similarly, the height of rectangle PQRSPQRS is equal the vertical distance between points SS and PP (or points RR and QQ), since these points have equal xx-coordinates.

This distance is equal to the difference between their yy-coordinates or 2(2)=42-(-2)=4.

The area of rectangle PQRSPQRS is 8×4=328\times4=32.
