Problem 1158

AMC 12 late, AIME early
Algebra Difficulty 4.9 Prove it Ukrainian Mathematical Olympiad · Ukraine

Solve the equation x+1−x+1=x+3x−x2x + \sqrt{1-x} + 1 = \sqrt{x} + 3\sqrt{x - x^2}.

This one wants a proof. Work it on paper, then read the official solution and mark yourself. Be honest about it: the record is only any use to you if it is.

Областю допустимих значень рівняння є відрізок [0;1][0; 1]. Запишемо рівняння у вигляді
(x)2+1−x+(x)2+(1−x)2−x−3x1−x=0. (\sqrt{x})^2 + \sqrt{1-x} + (\sqrt{x})^2 + (\sqrt{1-x})^2 - \sqrt{x} - 3\sqrt{x}\sqrt{1-x} = 0.
Розкладаючи ліву частину рівняння на множники, одержуємо:
(x−1−x)(2x−1−x−1)=0. (\sqrt{x} - \sqrt{1-x})(2\sqrt{x} - \sqrt{1-x} - 1) = 0.
Залишається розв'язати стандартними методами рівняння
x−1−x=0,2x=1−x+1. \sqrt{x} - \sqrt{1-x} = 0, \quad 2\sqrt{x} = \sqrt{1-x} + 1.
