Official solution
Let, for definiteness, point N lie on line AD, and point Q - on line AB (see fig.). Then the diagonals BD and PN of rectangle PBND are equal and intersect at their common midpoint O. Similarly, the diagonals BD and QM of rectangle QBMD are equal and intersect at their common midpoint O. Therefore, the diagonals PN and QM of quadrilateral PQNM are equal and intersect at their common midpoint O. Hence, PQNM is a rectangle.
