If 8+6=n+88 + 6 = n + 8, then nn equals

Solution

Since 8+6=n+88+6=n+8, then subtracting 8 from both sides, we obtain 6=n6=n and so nn equals 6.

Alternatively, since the order in which we add two numbers does not change the sum, then 8+6=6+88+6=6+8 and so n=6n=6.
