Algebra Difficulty 1.1 Junior Find the answer Canada

If 2x+6=162x + 6 = 16, the value of x+4x+4 is

77
88
99
1515
1313

A number or a short expression. Fractions can be typed as 3/2, and spacing doesn't matter.

Solution

Solution 1

Since 2x+6=162x+6=16, then 2x+62=162\dfrac{2x+6}{2} = \dfrac{16}{2} and so x+3=8x+3 = 8.

Since x+3=8x+3 = 8, then x+4=(x+3)+1=8+1=9x+4 = (x+3)+1 = 8+1 = 9.

Solution 2

Since 2x+6=162x+6=16, then 2x=166=102x = 16 - 6 = 10.

Since 2x=102x = 10, then 2x2=102\dfrac{2x}{2} = \dfrac{10}{2} and so x=5x=5.

Since x=5x=5, then x+4=5+4=9x+4=5+4=9.
