The sum of the first 9 positive integers is 45; in other words, 1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9=451+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9=45 What is the sum of the first 9 positive multiples of 5? In other words, what is the value of 5+10+15++40+455+10+15+\cdots + 40+45?

A number or a short expression. Fractions can be typed as 3/2, and spacing doesn't matter.

Solution

Since 1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9=451+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9 = 45 then 5+10+15++40+45=5(1+2+3++8+9)=5(45)=2255+10+15+ \cdots + 40 + 45 = 5(1+2+3+\cdots + 8 + 9) = 5 (45) = 225
