Algebra Difficulty 1.7 Junior Find the answer

What is the largest positive integer nn that satisfies n200<3500n^{200}<3^{500}?

A number or a short expression. Spacing and $ signs are ignored.

Solution

Note that n200=(n2)100n^{200}=(n^{2})^{100} and 3500=(35)1003^{500}=(3^{5})^{100}. Since nn is a positive integer, then n200<3500n^{200}<3^{500} is equivalent to n2<35=243n^{2}<3^{5}=243. Note that 152=225,162=25615^{2}=225,16^{2}=256 and if n16n \geq 16, then n2256n^{2} \geq 256. Therefore, the largest possible value of nn is 15.
