Algebra Difficulty 2.4 Junior Find the answer

Three tanks contain water. The number of litres in each is shown in the table: Tank A: 3600 L, Tank B: 1600 L, Tank C: 3800 L. Water is moved from each of Tank A and Tank C into Tank B so that each tank contains the same volume of water. How many litres of water are moved from Tank A to Tank B?

Solution

In total, the three tanks contain 3600 L+1600 L+3800 L=9000 L3600 \mathrm{~L} + 1600 \mathrm{~L} + 3800 \mathrm{~L} = 9000 \mathrm{~L}. If the water is divided equally between the three tanks, each will contain 139000 L=3000 L\frac{1}{3} \cdot 9000 \mathrm{~L} = 3000 \mathrm{~L}. Therefore, 3600 L3000 L=600 L3600 \mathrm{~L} - 3000 \mathrm{~L} = 600 \mathrm{~L} needs to be moved from Tank A to Tank B.
