Algebra Difficulty 1.8 Junior Find the answer

If 19+118=1\frac{1}{9}+\frac{1}{18}=\frac{1}{\square}, what is the number that replaces the \square to make the equation true?

Solution

We simplify the left side and express it as a fraction with numerator 1: 19+118=218+118=318=16\frac{1}{9}+\frac{1}{18}=\frac{2}{18}+\frac{1}{18}=\frac{3}{18}=\frac{1}{6}. Therefore, the number that replaces the \square is 6.
