Determine which of the following expressions has the largest value: 42, 4×2, 4−2, 24, or 4+2.
A number or a short expression. Spacing and $ signs are ignored.
Solution
We evaluate each of the five choices: 42=16, 4×2=8, 4−2=2, 24=2, 4+2=6. Of these, the largest is 42=16.
