needs $2\frac 12$ cups of flour. How
many times does Sam fill his $\frac 12$ cup container to accurately measure the flour for this
recipe?

$2$ times (since $\frac12\times2=1$ ).

To measure $2$ cups of flour, Sam
fills his $\frac12$ cup container

Sam fills his $\frac12$ cup container
$4+1=5$ times.

Solution 2:

Since $2\frac12$ cups is equal to
$\frac52$ cups, and $5\times\frac12=\frac52$ , then Sam fills

times.
