Algebra Difficulty 1.2 Junior Find the answer Canada

The expression 3+110+41003 + \frac{1}{10} + \frac{4}{100} is not equal to

Pick one

Solution

First, we note that 3+110+4100=3+10100+4100=3+14100=3141003 + \frac{1}{10}+\frac{4}{100} = 3+\frac{10}{100}+\frac{4}{100}=3+\frac{14}{100}=3\frac{14}{100}.

Since 14100=0.14\frac{14}{100}=0.14, then the given expression also equals 3.143.14.

Since 14100=750\frac{14}{100}=\frac{7}{50}, then the given expression also equals 37503\frac{7}{50}.

We also see that 3750=3+750=15050+750=157503\frac{7}{50} = 3 + \frac{7}{50} = \frac{150}{50}+\frac{7}{50}=\frac{157}{50}.

Therefore, the only remaining expression is 351103\frac{5}{110}.

We note further that 35110=3.0453\frac{5}{110} = 3.0\overline{45}, which is not equal to 3.14.
