At Wednesday's basketball game, the Cayley Comets scored 90 points. At Friday's game, they scored 80%80\% as many points as they scored on Wednesday. How many points did they score on Friday?

Solution

On Friday, the Cayley Comets scored 80%80\% of 90 points. This is equal to 80100×90=810×90=8×9=72\frac{80}{100} \times 90 = \frac{8}{10} \times 90 = 8 \times 9 = 72 points. Alternatively, since 80%80\% is equivalent to 0.8, then 80%80\% of 90 is equal to 0.8×90=720.8 \times 90 = 72.
